pc gaming on a 40 inch flat screen

i have a 40 inch 120 hz samsung i want to game on, with the specific request that i want to build a system that will run starcraft 2 on the highest settings possible, affordably as possible. i've built a few rigs before, but none tailored to play on tvs, just lcd monitors. i don't even know where to start in terms of knowing how powerful of a processor or video card i would need to do this. thank you in advance.

What resolution is said monitor. What inputs can it accept? Is it true 120hz, or just interpolating (labeled 3D ready?)?

Starcraft 2 at 1080P doesn't really need more than a GTX 460 or so. The screen almost certainly only takes a 60Hz input.

takes hdmi, 1080p, true 120 hz (but will be running at 60 hz for gaming)

with the gtx 460, what kind of processor should i be looking at? will core 2 duo suffice, or do i need one of them i3/i5/i7 processors?

Nobody should be buying a new Core 2 based system. You'll want to go either Athlon II/Phenom II from AMD or quad-core i5/i7 from Intel.
