I don't understand why you'd knock Civ which is one of the longest running franchises on the PC. It started on the PC and continues to grow and expand on it. Still up to this point the game hasn't been 'consolized' and in fact the console gets a completely separate version then the PC. Firaxis could have instead taken the route of other game companies, but yet they haven't. You missed the point, i wasent knocking civ, ive played every civ game bar the 1st one and alpha centuri as well, my point is that the forum is devoid of new big name games that are gonna be awesome. In fact now that you mention civ, wheres civ 5 at huh? Wheres that? Wheres the posts about stuff like that? They dont exist because its civilization revelations or something for the consoles thats coming next....

Sweet, so DICE is paying lip service to PC gamers by saying they'll give you prone in exchange for giving you the shaft for the past 3-4 years. Time to celebrate a huge victory for PC gaming!

Some of the rage is channeled semi-constructively into (not a boycott, per se, but) a redirection of funds from Modern Warfare 2 over to Battlefield: Bad Company 2 - a notion that has been cannily seized by the would-be recipient. Bad Company 2 is going to be pretty good, so why not buy it - but let's pause for a moment and really absorb the idea that PC gamers are rallying around a DICE console port in their zeal. Nevermind the fact that you can't host your own Battlefield 2 servers, and that having a dedicated server for the game involves renting it from one of their partners. Maybe they didn't read the FAQ?

Fist of all... Yes, I own a console, but I also own a perfectly capable gaming rig. I buy games on whichever platform I feel is going to give me the best experience. The best experience may be dictated by a platform specific feature, controls, or the fact that all of the people I know are getting a mp game for a specific platform.

Second, I don't currently have any plans on picking up MW2. You brought this game up. I actually think MW2 is a pretty good example of what is wrong with PC gaming lately. More appropriately, it's a good example of developers not providing PC gamers with what they want. You didn't even mention that they broke another PC gaming "standard" by raising the price to $59.99 from the usual $49.99.

Finally, I'm not the one making this a lose-lose for PC gaming, I'm just stating how I predict devs/publishers to react. You seem to be making the assumption that just because I can view what is going on objectively, that for some reason I'm happy about the trends I'm seeing. I'm not particularly pleased that PC gaming has taken a back seat to consoles, but that's my perception of what's happening and I'm not going to bury my head in the sand and deny it.

I think in general posts like that go on sites that are dedicated to the game like civfanatics. You could say that about every game and here at anandtech you see more of a general game discussion. I don't think bar WoW I've ever seen a hugh thread dedicated to one game here so if you use that as a gauge I don't think it's accurate.

For me as much as I love FPS games I could really care less about the next CoD as either on a console or PC it's been done to death. Plus they want to charge me $60 for an expansion pack. WTF?

You say tropic 3 is a remake of 1 well you're right and I wish I could get a real remake of Metal of Honor, but instead they took the game down the goofy path and now I'm tired of the series.

So is PC gaming dead? No, but overall just like the movies it's stale, recycled stuff.

Console gaming is definately more attractive with the 720p and 1080p tv's.
I bought a PS3 because the graphics look so good now, but soon realized that PC gaming is still much better. Especially for FPS games.

New games (specifically "Blockbuster AAA" titles) are released more frequently for consoles than on PC. However, many of these blockbuster games just don't live up to the hype for either platform. In other words, PC gaming is not dying, it's QUALITY games that are a dying breed on all platforms. The only difference is that consoles get a lot more average-to-crappy games in between AAA releases that people seem happy to spend $60 on, and that makes the PC gaming situation look worse than it actually is.

Quality over quantity, combined with my gaming tastes make the PC my platform of choice, and I'm not alone. The day PC gaming dies is the day consoles become actual PCs themselves.

I think PC Gamers are getting out of the habit of buying big budget single player games. The pattern of buying 2-4 games a month that all take like 10 hours to beat is something only console gamers do these days. The thing about these "Blockbuster AAA titles" is you get hyped to play them because of the awesome screenshots/trailers, but when you actually play them they often aren't that fun.
