GoG and GMG have probably been better compared to steam the last couple of years, so always check the various sites. Amazon, too.
Steam is still a good place for sales, but I think the perception of it being crap these days mostly comes from all of us that have been benefiting from Steam sales for many years, so none of those great deals are really relevant if you already have the game.
Or, maybe it's just perception, but I think it is more or less true that newer games are getting better sales on GMG and GoG, for whatever reason. I know Steam doesn't really control the sale price, so I wonder how the same game is sold at much lower prices on one site compared to others. One reason for this, I guess, is that CDProject uses GoG as their "official" distribution platform (in the US, anyway), so they are likely to get better sales there with their games, as I think they did with W3 release.
Speaking of--will we see No Man's Sky for ~$5? Can't wait!
