I bought an xbox 360 in November 2006 & a PS3 in 2008 (99% for blu-ray). I became hooked on live and the ease of use since PC gaming going back to the 80's. I finally have a new computer system (first since 2004). 2004 was the Doom 3 & Half Life 2 PC build 🙂

I picked up Crysis, Crysis War Head, and Empire Total War for my new PC (i7 @ 3.8 & 2 5870's in crossfire).

Are there any really good games that are PC that you guys would recommend since 11/2006 when I left PC gaming? The totalwar series always brings me back eventually. I prefer to play multiplatform on my xbox 360 because of my 73" TV, surround sound, and gamer score.

I heard Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War 2 is great - the expansion Chaos Rising too. I'll be getting it once my HD5850 arrives. No idea what you played on your consoles... Mass Effect 1 and 2? Dragon Age: Origins? You probably played those on your Xbox right ?

I also heard Settler 7 is pretty good. That rig of yours will also play Metro 2033 really nice with full details. DX11 and stuff.
 
If you prefer to play only PC exclusives on PC, you are going to run into an issue that there really are not that many.

Starcraft 2 preorder will get you the beta right now, much better than empire imo. DOW2 is good too.

I have a little more money than time in my life 🙂 I just finished up my xbox 360 games from 2008!!! I am just now starting all the games I bought in 2009! I haven't bought any for 2010 yet. I had DAO & Mass Effect 1 & @...

I will look at Metro 2033 because I heard the graphics are much better on PC?

2nd vote for DOW2 so I will check it out 🙂 I am wating on Starcraft 2 & Diablo3!

Company of Heroes (must play not matter what you do)
World in Conflict
Dawn of War Series
Dragon Age Origins (because it's so much better on PC)

King Arthur - The Role-playing Wargame is worth looking into if you enjoy Total War.

Neverwinter Nights 2 if you haven't played it, i enjoyed this more than The Witcher.

I hadn't heard of King Arthur... I will check into it! I never played Neverwinter Nights!

RPG with a good story #1 (bioware games are my favorite)
FPS... single player mostly
Racing... I have a playseat & steering wheel for my 360 & love Forza!

Company of Heroes (Hands down one of the best RTS's ever)
Dawn of War 1 series (great fun RTS with superb melee combat)
Dawn of War 2 series (I enjoy 2 more than 1 as it is closer to the WH40k sci fi universe but some disagree. It is definitely worth it for SP and MP)
Dragon Age: Origins
Crysis/Warhead (Mechwarrior: Living Legends is a superb MP Mod for Crysis which is really most fun to play)

Can't think of much else off the top of my head despite plunging so much money into Steam in the past four years my wallet is still spinning.

EDIT: Both King's Bounty games are extremely good if you enjoyed Heroes of Might & Magic 3 or 5.

Mirror's Edge (has considerable faults, but it's great for a playthrough at the bargain basement prices you can get it for)

I haven't played these yet, but own them because I suspect they are good:
The Witcher
Civilization IV
Supreme Commander (better get the Gold edition)

I plan to get:
STALKER (the original; I hear it's best played with a mod pack)

These are the few that come to mind right away, plus of course the others so far mentioned in the above posts.
 
If you haven't played Mass Effect 2 do yourself a favor and play mass effect 1 so you know what's going on an play mass effect 2. Probably one of the best games ever made.

Batman: Arkham Asylum was a great game as well.
