For most games controls would break the cross-platform competitive play and make it unfair. Even co-op games would be unbalanced, though most people would probably not notice that or complain. So I don't see it ever becoming common - unless they make it so only people playing with gamepad on the PC can play against console players.
Out of current games, at least Blazblue has cross-platform.
I believe Portal 2 is supposed to offer PS3 <--> PC cross platform play.
Is there any particular reason that they can't support and sell keyboard and mouse for consoles to work with games that need it?
Because most people have their xbox360's in the living room and it's not very convenient to use a keyboard/mouse there.
Is it or will it ever be possible for console and pc gamers be able to play the same game together? I know GFWL was suppossed to make this happen some years ago but has it happened yet or will it?

Microsoft had a somewhat secret project to unify xbox360 with PC on some games, but it failed miserably because they had some competitive xbox360 gamers get their asses handed to them by middling PC gamers in some FPS matches. It didn't work and the project was ditched because PC gamers had a huge advantage.
Doesn't DC Universe Online allow PS3 and PC players to play together? If it does, there's one!
Because there's no need to. Console's are about everyone having the exact same playing experience
The thing with consoles, you can give a kid a console, and you dont have to worry about upgrades, malware, driver updates or viruses.
One morning my daughter asked me to look at her computer, she said it started getting pop-ups the night before. I turn her computer on, and within seconds images of nude women started poping-up on the screen. Not exactly the kind of stuff you want your 14 year old daughter to see.
For my sons birthday, I'am looking at spending about $200 - $250 for upgrades.
With a console, parents dont have to worry about that kind of stuff.
Consoles offer people a worry free gaming platform. I just think the overall gaming experience is better with a PC.
To be fair, you should have loaded up her PC with all sorts of AV and pop blocking software to begin with. I don't think she would mind if there is a ton of stuff running in the background.
