Hey

Looking for a newer pc game to play that will zap up a bunch of this free time I have nearing the end of the year..

These are the games I currently own/beat:
Farcry
Splinter Cell
FEAR

Looking maybe to switch it up from first person shooters.. looking at maybe an MMRPG like City of Heroes, Guild Wars or WOW.. or something along the lines of SWAT4 or Rainbow Six..

Would like something for less the 40 bucks that I can pick up in a local store kuz vacation starts tomorrow!

Specs of my comp:
A64 3000
2 gigs fo PC3200 RAm
7800GT Video card

Ne suggestions?

yea i keep on hearing WOW will do that...

Is it really worth the 15 bucks a month to play?

I have been trying to find a clear answer on what are the major differences between it and Guild Wars(which is free)... I threw City of Heroes in kuz its cheaper then both WOW and GW and I am a comic book freak :)

I have never played a MMRPG before.. and am worried I will get bored with it kuz it will be to difficult to get a decent character..

thanks for the replies.. keep them comming

Try this analogy: if Guild wars is a single light breakfast of orange juice and a piece of toast, WoW is a 5 course meal every day for a week.

Comic book freak? Then maybe CoH would be the choice for you. To continue the analogy, it's probably a hearty bowl of soup for a couple of days.

yes, mmos are worth the monthly.

City of Heroes has very little content and variety (other than your actual character).

Guild Wars and WoW are more fundamentally different than just cost. Certain gamers would be better off with GW, but most would enjoy WoW more. You pay more, you get more. Some people don't need as much as WoW offers and would also like the PvP focus of GW.

Are those the only games you've beaten? Because I can think of quite a few great games that you could play. An MMO would suck up most of that time... and most of that money.

RTS:
Warcraft 3 + expansion for an intro to real time strategy (tons of mods and a massive online multiplayer base for this game)
Rome: Total War
Majesty GOLD for a different take on it (cheap game)
Command and Conquer Generals for RTS set "today" (not fantasy, historical, etc)
Homeworld 1 and 2 (3D space RTS)
FPS:
Half Life 2 (comes with counterstrike for mp)
Call of Duty 1 + expansion (mp and sp)
Call of Duty 2 (mp and sp)
Unreal Tournament 2004 (make sure you get Red Orchestra mod if you like multiplayer fps)
Max Payne 1 and 2 (technically 3rd person shooter)
Doom 3 (if you like the dark)
TBS:
Heroes of Might and Magic 3 + expansions
Civilization 4 for a big time turn based experience
Galactic Civilizations + expansion
RPG:
Knights of the Old Republic 1 and 2
Morrowind + expansions (epic)
Sacred + expansion (hack and slash if you haven't played Diablo 2)
Might and Magic 6, 7 and 8 for old school SP rpg goodness.

Others would be the GTA series (GTA3, GTA: vice city, GTA: san andreas), Freespace 2 (space sim), i know i'm forgetting a bunch.

yeah you said newer, but there are some I just cannot make a list without mentioning :)

I was actually going to suggust one from this series, if you decide not to go with the MMO.

When I hear "time sap" that is usually the first thing I think of.

With that sweet rig you need to play Call of Duty 2 and the original game and expansion if you never played them. Good stuff, mang.

Google search at this point. I'm pretty confident WoW will work on a 64bit platform.

Malladine had an awesome list.
Elder Scrolls 3 is an especially big time killer. The add-ons make it even better.
Although I would add the Disciples Series to the list of Turn-Based Strategy.

It's $15 a month... how long did you spend playing FEAR or Splinter Cell?

Yeah i've heard lots of people enjoy the Disciples series. I got one of those cheap strategy first boxed sets with Disciples 2 and the expansion included. I tried and tried but I just couldn't get into it. I think it had something to do with the limited army size. I mean come on, 5 units and a hero MAX?! I can't even stack em so the number shows as more than 1. At least in heroes I had that illusion of having an actual army.
