PC Freezes when phone rings

My computer decides to freeze whenever my phone rings (I'm offline when this happens). I think it is just a config error on my part, but I don't know. My OS is W2k, and the modem is a 56k made by DSI (a subsidary of Creative). I have the latest drivers as well. Please help me...

does that modem have some kind of software/driver option with it that has the option to de-select call waiting etc.?
