PC for World Of Warcraft help.

quickquestion

Junior Member
PLEASE when you POST threads asking for input on system builds tell us...

1. What YOUR PC will be used for. That means what types of tasks you'll be performing.

Mainly only Browsing and World of Warcraft..

2. What YOUR budget is. A price range is acceptable as long as it's not more than a 20% spread

Not sure not looking to break the bank maybe 350$

3. What country YOU will be buying YOUR parts from.

Canada, Ontario ottawa

4. IF you're buying parts OUTSIDE the US, please post a link to the vendor you'll be buying from.
We can't be expected to scour the internet on your behalf, chasing down deals in your specific country... Again, help us, help YOU.

5. IF YOU have a brand preference. That means, are you an Intel-Fanboy, AMD-Fanboy, ATI-Fanboy, nVidia-Fanboy, Seagate-Fanboy, WD-Fanboy, etc.

No Preference.

6. If YOU intend on using any of YOUR current parts, and if so, what those parts are.

CPU : AMD Athlon II X4 635 - NOT KEEP
Mobo - BIOSTAR Group N68S3+ - Would like to keep but I don't think they sell a CPU for it anymore.
Hard Drive - 1863GB Western Digital WDC WD20 ( Will Keep for sure )
RAM:
Memory
Type DDR3
Size 4096 MBytes
Channels # Dual
DRAM Frequency 669.7 MHz
CAS# Latency (CL) 9 clocks
RAS# to CAS# Delay (tRCD) 9 clocks
RAS# Precharge (tRP) 9 clocks
Cycle Time (tRAS) 24 clocks
Bank Cycle Time (tRC) 33 clocks
Command Rate (CR) 1T

Video Card - AMD Radeon HD 6450

If I can keep the motherboard and just change the ram/cpu/ Video card and PSW I would be very happy.

7. IF YOU plan on overclocking or run the system at default speeds.

NO

8. What resolution, not monitor size, will you be using?

1600x900

9. WHEN do you plan to build it?
Note that it is usually not cost or time effective to choose your build more than a month before you actually plan to be using it.

Today hopefully. (wife is buying)

X. Do you need to purchase any software to go with the system, such as Windows or Blu Ray playback software?

No

If any info is Missing please reply with what's missing and I will reply as soon as I can 🙂

Thanks for the help.

I

CPU - Pentium G3220 $68
Mobo - Asus H81M-E $62
RAM - reuse
GPU - Gigabyte 7790 2GB $150 ($140 AR)
HDD - reuse
PSU - Antec HCG-620M $85 ($50 AR)
Case - Antec GX700 $50 ($20 AR)

= $340 AR

Is there a reason you're limited to CanadaComputers?

If you don't do rebates, that case is still the best pick, but change the PSU to Antec VP450 $45. If you don't do the case rebate, you'll probably go over budget with these parts, so downgrade the GPU to 7770.

If I can keep the motherboard and just change the ram/cpu/ Video card and PSW I would be very happy.

You mean the PSU? What is your PSU?

The next x-pac is having some nice graphical upgrades with better character models etc...you may want to keep this in mind, I'm not sure how this will affect performance on lower end machines..

I played WOW and that game really has VERY low requirements. It is not GPU dependent at all. If you have 4GB of memory, a GPU from 4 years ago, and any i5 that game will scream at max settings on a 24" monitor in a 25 man raiding environment. 10 mans will require much less.

So I suppose my question really is what is the problem with your current rig? I admit that I'm not that familiar with that AMD CPU but it's not that old and I can't imagine it being that big of a problem for that game. If it is just grab an Intel processor since I can definitely tell you that a good intel CPU will run that game perfectly.

When you do upgrade the CPU is the most important. You might want to upgrade everything but the GPU first and then only buy a new Videocard after you have tried your old one. I once upgraded my GPU with that game and literally got no performance increase. It's all about the CPU.
