PC External box for aircard

lowend

Junior Member
I have a Verizon Broadband Air Card for my laptop. I want to be able to plug it into an external box that is connected to my desk top via USB or something like that to surf the net using my Air Card.

Is there a company that makes something like this that is external or where might I find someone to make something like this. It needs to be external from the Desk top so it can sit up on top of the desk for reception.

Thanks for the help,
Brian

PCCard is essentially PCI in a small form-factor for notebooks. Having an external adapter like that would be like having a PCI card connected via USB. I don't think there is such a product, though technically it might be possible.

Thanks for repling,

I'm suprised with the Air Card and Sprint and Verzon now with Broadband on cel cards that something likt this hasn't come out. You don't want to place the card under the desk in the back of the computer because of reception.

I hope someone might know where something like this can be found or built. I'm in an area where cable and DSL is ot offered.

Well such a card is not intended for desktop computing, it's intended for mobile use. Almost no-one is buying one of those in order to use it for their desktop, so there's zero incentive to develop an adapter.

You might be able to find a PCI to PCCard adapter that allows you to mount it in a front drive bay. However the issue of circuit length makes that unlikely too.
