A PC-DVD from Creative w/ Dolby decoder used with the TV out function of the Prophet II Ultra

- or -

Just a plain DVD Drive for the TV?

Any help? Thanks.

Depends on your budget/setup and how you want to use it. For watching DVD, set top player would be the way to go but personally I would go w/Playstation 2 (when their price tags comes down from the clouds).

Don't use a PS2 for DVD playback, they are POS's when it comes to that. You can get an awesome DVD player for the price of a GF2 ultra.

uh, if the creative comes w/ a dxr decoder card, use it for tv-out...it should look fairly good, but u can alwasy buy a set-top box that'll have higher image quality, more functionality, remote, etc...u'll also pay a lot more for it...

personally, i'd go w/ the pc-dvd and use the tv-out function of your computer...save a ton of cash, and it looks virtually jsut as good...(and u can also control volume anyway - that is, if u have your pc hooked up to yoru stereo, like myself)

I already have a Prophet II Ultra. For $125 - $175, I can't decide weather to get a DVD player, or get a PC-DVD (Creative's with the decoder card) player and use the Ultra's TV-out function.

In one of the previous posts, someone mentioned about image quality, doesn't all TVs have the same resolution? Will the real DVD player offer a better quality?

Thanks.

A good DVD player will have component out video connections where as far as I know the Creative setups have only composite and S-video. If you have a TV with component inputs, it's worth it to get that on your DVD player. As far as I'm concerned, having a set top DVD player is well worth it for the convenience of the remote and not having to connect up your computer to the TV (I guess that depends on where your TV is in relation to your PC).

Go for a regular DVD player. DVD from a PC really stinks and requires alot of extra cables. Plus if you are watching a movies, you can't do anything else on the computer.

Finally a GF2 Ultra has very little to do with DVD playback. Most of the work is done by the CPU.
