PC does not recognize my keyboard

I'm building a PC and the first boot went fine but when I physically installed the remaining hardware I got a boot disk system error so decided to uninstall the hardware and start installing one piece at a time. This is where the problem started. With only the MB, graphics card and keybord installed I rebooted and found that I could not enter CMOS, basically the first boot failed, I removed the battery to clear the CMOS and rebooted. At this point it entered CMOS but I could not navigate. I tried a couple keybords to see if that made a difference but it did not. Can anyone help to solve this problem or tell me what might be causing it? The MB is a ASUS A7V8X-X. I am using a PS2 keyboard with nothing fancy about it.

Welcome to the ATFx.
It would be useful if you told us what type of keyboard, USB or PS/2, you are using (the more info the better for ALL tech questions - at least MOST of us aren't mind readers). For USB kbd to work for BIOS, DOS programs etc., then USB Legacy Support (kbd/mse) needs to be set to ENABLED in the BIOS (which is usually the Default condition these days).
. If you can't get to the BIOS settings because you only have a USB kbd and the setting is set to DISABLED, then you may have to borrow a PS/2 kbd to get the settings set properly. Then you can switch back to the USB kbd.
