why can you not delete anything on a PC without causeing ireversable problems which require a full reinstall of the OS? Thank satan I am on a Mac

right grumbling off my chest

my wife would like me to clean up her laptop for her as I have always told her never to delete anything cos of those DLL files and all their probs.

she has loads of software which has placed shortcuts of itself just about everywhere, we want to uninstall windows IE but can not as it is grayed out in control pannels

what is the best and safest way to performe a spring clean?
