PC CHIPS MOB with AMD XP 1800+....does it work????

I was looking at some reviews of the motherboard fitted to a new PC I bought on the net.

It?s a PCCHIPS M810LR motherboard. The processor is an AMD 1800+, which is apparently a 1.53Ghz processor- aCCORDING TO ONE SITE I looked at, I assume this is a benchmark test??

The motherboard reputedly only supports up to 1.2Ghz ? according to PCCHIPS website.

Am I going to have compatibility issues with this motherboard / processor?
Should I demand all my hard earned £'s back?

I'm not too positive about the motherboard compatibility, but if you the PC from a reputable company, you shouldn't have a problem.

I just wanted to mention to you that the speed of 1.53 GHZ for the processor is the offical, rated, real speed of that chip. The numbers for the AMD XP processors (i.e. 1800+, 2000+, 2100+, etc.) are not speeds, they are model numbers. AMD did this to show that clock speed in not as pure of a ranking of a chip as most people think it is. I've seen cases where an XP 2000+ (which has a clock speed of 1.67 GHZ) beats an Intel P4 2.0 GHZ. I could go into details, but I'll leave it at the fact that AMD wants to stop using clock speed to compare processors, since while it may be a valid comparison to ones from the same company in the same line, it doesn't hold true going from company to company.
 
If that motherboard will only support 1.2GHz chip, then you should buy a different motherboard as the XP1800 runs at 1.53.

810LMR Will not run an Athlon XP at full clock speed because it doesn't support 200fsb. It may or may not run an Athlon XP, but even if it does, even if you were to use a Xp 2100+, the clock speed would only reach 1.3Ghz due to no 266fsb support. I'd see if you could find a PC CHips M841LR which has DDR and SDR Slots, On-Board Video, Sound, LAN and Modem or if not, then get a K7S5A (PC Chips M830LMR is the same)
 
umm you guys are giving some bad info 🙂

if you check the specs at pcchips website it says it only supports the 200mhz version cpu's... but that was only the early revisions of the board.

the newer revisions of the 810lmr not only support both 200mhz and 266mhz chips, they also support athlonXP
plus add the fact that it has onboard video/sound/lan, and bundled with a 56k modem its a great budget board
 
Let's get it right ... XP processors supported on M810 board revision v7.0 if it has an "XP" sticker next to the CPU socket, and all v7.1 or newer.

Forgot to say, please check the power supply unit is adequate - you want 25 amps on the 5V rail, and ample headroom on the 5V+3.3V combined output. Mind the fine print, many "high wattage" PSUs have ridiculous limitations on the latter.

Seriously, I had understood that K7SEM (M810LMR's ECS cousin) in recent versions had 266fsb support, but I didn't see on PC CHips' site any indication that M810LMR was the same, but no harm done. Hopefully his mobo is a rev7
 
I have built 1 system using this board and with a 1000 duron. The board was revision 5 and it worked great. Remember the Morgan core is the same basic core as the XP.

This is a decent intergrated board. Supports 1 gig of sdram.

As for the PS: this board is not fussy about it. I used a very generic 300 watt PS and this system works great.

But PCChips does have a better board available for this application: the m831LR


 
your right about it not being fussy about Powersupplies 😀

ive used that board in several builds with 200w and 250w generic powersupplies.... and all of them were totally stable (at least stable enough to run prime95 in torture mode for 24hrs with no errors)

DO NOT BUY PCCHIPS!

They are garbage. Please, do yourself a favor and put the credit card back in your wallet until you find a motherboard made by a quality manufacturer. I speak from experience. Don't believe me? Try to contact them about a "problem" you are having with one of their boards. Doesn't matter what problem, make something up. Their products and support are both crap. Just trying to help.....
