I wanted to update my Bios, but when I ran AMI's motherboard manufacturer identification program it said my manufacturer was Elitegroup Computer Co., LTD. When I bought my motherboard/cpu combo I was told it was a PC Chips M830LMR. Whats going on? I cannot flash it with the pc chips flash programs, that's why I started trying to figure out different things like the manufacturer ID. Here's the string of #'s I get:
62-0206-001131-00101111-040201-SiS735
Also at the top of the screen when booting up it says:
Release 02/06/2002 S

Can anyone help?

In a word, yes.

They are the exact same board and the BIOSes are interchangable.

First get the correct BIOS update for your MB. If you have lan make sure you get the BIOS with lan.

Go into your BIOS and see if there is a setting to make the BIOS flashable. Then just follow the instructions.

I have done this many times. I updated the BIOS for my m810lmr made by Amptron using the PCchips BIOS because they have frequent updates. It works like a charm.

That is the best advice I can give you.

I didn't see a setting to make my BIOS flashable- what then? Is there a jumper that needs to be moved? When I try to flash, i get an error that says "error 2-program not found" or something to that effect. Any ideas on this?

This could be caused by how you are flashing.

Please describe what you did to flash, including the dos command line you typed to flash.

don't forget the file extension on the bios file itself.

BINGO!!! That was my problem- I didn't type in the extension for the BIOS rom file. I just figured that part of it out, and I'm currently flashed with my updated BIOS. Thanks for all your help
:)

You are welcome. :)

Would you believe that that is the #2 problem people have when flashing.
