The mobo is an SiS730S. He's using 23.11 drivers (I'm pretty sure) for his Vtek GF3 Ti200. OS is win98se.
Tomorrow we're going to try to uninstall the current drivers (using nvmax), and install 22.80's to see if that works. The vid card manual said that if he was using an sis mobo he would have to get updated drivers, which he says he has, but he/we have screwed with so many things during troubleshooting I can't be sure that everything is set up right.
If the 22.80's don't work we're going to try a fresh re-install of win98, setting BIOS back to defaults, and installing fresh drivers once again.
Any other comments / suggestions are appreciated.
