PC case USB connections--is there no standard?

I have an Antec 3700 AMB case with front USB ports, which I only recently connected because of the hassle of getting all those tiny leads onto the correct pins on the motherboard. My motherboard (NF7-S 2.0) came with a rear USB bracket that had all the leads consolidated into one connector. I have looked at other cases with front USB, and they all seem to have individual leads, which begs the question: Why don't they just have a single connector like that provided with mobos? Do different mobos have different pin layouts for USB? Just curious because it seems ridiculous to have to use my fat fingers to individually plug in all those tiny pins.

There is a standard, but not all motherboard manufacturers follow it. hence the seperated connectors.
