PC can see wireless router, but won't connect after password is accepted

I'm using a Linkysys WRT54G as an access point, it's connected to a 2wire 2701HG-B. I can use the Linksys as an access point just fine with the wired connection, however when I try to connect using wireless it fails. I can see the router with full connection strength, I choose the router and I enter my password/encryption key and it accepts the key and then it tries to establish the connection. It does this for about 1-2 minutes but never completes the connection. I'm not sure what to do at this point.

Here's what I configured so far.

1 Disabled DHCP on the Linksys
2 Changed the IP on the Linksys to 192.168.1.2
3 Ensured that both routers have the same wireless encryption methods
-Linksys WPA2 Personal
-2Wire WPA-PSK and WPA2-PSK (I'm assuming the encryption is compatible with the Linksys)
4 Ensured that both routers have the same password/encryption key
5 Ensured that both routers have the same time zone (I heard this could have a bearing on connectivity)

Not sure if there is anything else I should have done. Thanks for any advice

I assume you're using XP? There are hot fixes you need to install to fix WPA and WPA2 if you are using windows zero config. Or just use the wireless client card utility - it's much better.

I'm confused. You have TWO wireless routers? You'll need to make sure the encryption type and key match EXACTLY on them as well as any clients. It's also really common to not get the key correct.

Thanks for the advice Spidey, I installed the XP hot fix and I have a connection now. Oddly enough it did'nt connect right away after I installed the fix and rebooted the machine. I tried to manually connect and it did the same previously, so I turned on my laptop (which is right next to the desktop) and for some reason it finally connected. wierd 😕 Not sure if the laptop wireless had anything to do with the desktop wireless connection, maybe it was just weird timing. At any rate the connection seems fine on the desktop. Now to tackle the desktop.
