Hey guys -

I'm trying to build a pc to donate to a buddy in my gaming community (www.iOGaming.net). He had to give up his pc for unfortunate reasons.

I want to keep the budget down as much as possible, hopefully around $300 plus or minus $100. I need to put together everything from the case onwards. I'd like to purchase from www.newegg.com.

Like I said we just want to get him a pc that will run BF2 fairly well to get him back playing with us. Anyway I thank you guys so much in advance..

Regards,

I did a quick built that came close, but it will be damn near impossible to do this with $300-400 buying new parts. The biggest questions are do you want integrated graphics or a discrete card and secondly do you need an OS? Vista or XP Home are each $90 and that truly kills the budget.

Basic Antec case w/ PSU - $80

WD 320GB HDD - $70

Gigabyte 780G Mobo - $90

Visionteck 3850 256MB - $110

2GB Patriot DDR2-800 - $40

Athlon X2 6400+ - $66

Total is about $450 without shipping or tax. If you remove the add in video card you will come within budget, however I don't know if it will be fast enough for BF2.

There are a few things you could change, the mobo and hard drive are not the absolute cheapest, however they are definitely on the cheap end of the scale and provide good value for the money. The processor could also be swapped out for something $10-20 cheaper, however that might hurt game performance too much.

Bottom line you really need a $500-600 budget to do this right, or you need to be willing to buy used parts off the FS/T forum or take donations for your gaming community for some parts. The biggest issue will be the OS, because it's going to eat 1/4 of the budget.

Good luck to you!
