PC boots to keyboard layout

So I updated my HTPC downstairs with "update then shut down PC" the other night. When I fired it up, last night, it would boot to the keyboard layout question. I hit US and then it goes in the other blue screen where it ask what I wanna do next like, system recovery, boot from HD or USB, etc. Tried most of it and nothing works even when I tried to boot to the Win 10 USB boot thingy. It asks to install win 10 which I tried but a compatibility error comes up. The set-up then exits then I'm back to where I started. I will continue to try this, maybe make another bootable USB from scratch but if you guys have any other ideas, I'm all ears.
just an FYI, it is Win 10 home (upgrade from Win 7), on a i5-3570 I think on a Asus Maximus V gene with a 560TI and 120 GB SSD. Was running fine prior....
