I just picked up an Alienware X51, cheap. It was working fine. It came with a Gtx 745 and I wanted to upgrade, so I put in a Gtx 660. I started it up and the screen was twisted. I reseated the card and got the same result. I tried putting the old card back in and same issue occurs. I also can't do anything in the bios because of this problem. The screen rights itself as soon as the desktop appears. Can someone help me out? I'm worried if I run it this way, it may cause damage. Thank you.

Is this connected to a VGA monitor? Try hitting your "autosync" button or menu option on your monitor, to re auto-detect and sync the signal coming out of the card.

How is the display connected- HDMI/ DVI/ VGA/ Evil Magic Fairies? The diagonal looks to be a mismatch between the video card's detection of the display capabilities and the video card. As far as damage, as long as the display doesn't STAY in that "diagonal mode" for extended periods or frequently (as in more than once a day for weeks/ continuously for 30 minutes and up) I would not worry about damage.

Also- what is the display model#? It looks to be a LG LCD TV

Sorry for not providing enough information. Okay. I just tested it on a Samsung LCD monitor and everything booted up fine. My setup is, PC connected to Denon AVR then connected to LG plasma TV. So I can assume that everything is ok with the card. It's just my setup that is giving me that twisted screen. Any idea how to correct this? Maybe a setting in the bios. Thanks for all the help thus far.

You --might-- have some luck in video/resolution settings on the actual TV itself. I don't recall an appropriate adjustment in BIOS settings...

Otherwise, since you mention it works fine after the desktop appears, you could keep your display "off" until sufficient time for the PC to finish booting (note that this method may inflict some HDMI handshake quirks though). I am assuming HDMI connection based on equipment listed...

I am using hdmi. I was able to find an option on my Denon receiver that allows for HDMI post processing. I ended turning all of that off and everything seems fine now. I appreciate all the help and direction. Now to rock some games.
