I have a need to stream any A/V my computer can display to my TV/Home theater -- wirelessly.

Previously, my TV and PC where near each other, I had my TV connected to my computer via the S-Video on my 9800pro. Windows XP recognized my TV as second monitor. This was perfect.

Now I've moved, and my computer is in the den while my computer is 30 ft away in the leaving room. It would look quite ugly to extend cables between them, so I'm looking for a solution to do it wirelessly.

Today, I was lurking in Best Buy trying to find what I needed. I was told to buy the D-link wireless HD Media Player. Unfortunately, upon reviewing reviews online, this unit only streams certain types of media and would not stream everything.

I was also shown the Terk wavemaster leapfrog wireless 2.4ghz. He insisted that they tried it out in-store and the quality was terrible. Reading reviews online, indeed there is noticeable degradation--especially every time somebody walks between the two receivers.

Curious, what do you guys recommend for utilizing my TV as a second monitor wirelessly withought significant loss of quality?

Thank you in advance!

You need something close by to act as a client/endpoint for something. An old XBox running myth frontend works great to stream video from my mythserver in the main room to my bedroom TV.

You might be able to do a cat5 based KVM solution too, but those would be spendy, and might not work like you want them to. I run keyboard, monitor, and mouse across the building from my desk to my server rack's KVM over cat5, I think it's a Cybex unit?

I think Apple a thing like an iTV ... that does AV streaming ... It didn't do S-Vid or composite, just component and HDMI.

I don't know if it streamed live TV or if it only did canned audio or video.

MS Media Center and XBOX 360 can do this too, I believe.

Good Luck

i have tried a few things and finally gave up on wireless. there was just too much data transferring and my connections would keep dropping.

I finally wound up with a modded xbox. I had someone run a cat5 line from my office up to the attic and down in the living room. didn't cost too much - or you could do this yourself.

modded xboxes can play just about any file format - you won't regret getting one of these.

There are wireless devices out there to carry video. It isn't 802.11 stuff, but it does use the same spectrum. They work remarkably well.

Just don't try to use any WiFi devices in their presence.
