PC acting funny after Bioshock

lozina

My PC has been acting funny lately- rebooting or shutting down randomly! At first I thought maybe my PSU was dying but there is also another possibility that spring into my head, namely because this all started happening only after I installed Bioshock. Exactly the day after I installed Bioshock is when it started.

So, could it be something with those rootkit rumors from the game that is causing this?

It seems to shut down or reboot most frequently within a few minutes of booting up after being shut down for a while, but I cannot reproduce it at will

I would run a memtest and scandisk just to rule that out. It's possible something went awry with the DRM install, but it seems pretty remote that it would cause you these types of problems.

The developers said there is no rootkit that is installed with Bioshock. There are some null registry entries that are left over after Bioshock is uninstalled which is where those rumors first started.

There is however Securom, which isnt a rootkit in the same way a SUV isnt a car.

And of course the fact that a rootkit in itself doesn't do much if it isn't coupled with a virus or spyware that it can hide.

did you check the temp and fans on your comp (cpu, mb, video)? could be coincidence, but you should easily be able to rule out the obvious ones first..
