I just bought an Asus Maximus II Formula and 2gb of OCZ Reaper PC8500 (1066)

For some reason it is showing as 667 when everything is set to AUTO.

I know I can chnage the settings to 1066 but why won't it work as 1066 with settings in AUTO when it is 1066 memory?

Because of the SPD of the RAM. Automatically, the PC will only boot with the the settings programmed into the SPD, which is usually 533, 667 and 800 which are specified by JEDEC (1066 was also specified recently but with horrible latencies and I don't think it's programmed into many SPDs).
It should boot with 800 though, but that might be a BIOS issue or your SPD is improperly programmed.

Nickel020 hit the nail right on the head! v3rax, I think it's time for you to buy some quality RAM from G.Skill. ;)

Memory
SPD
CPU

All kidding aside, the 8GB of my G.Skill did boot up at 1066 the first time with my ASUS Rampage motherboard and is handling my OC quite well.
