Im getting SoDIMM for my notebook, but there is there a big speed difference for PC 100 and PC 133
of course i know PC 133 is a bit faster, but really, overall, it ain't gonna be that slow rite..

speaking of RAM, i had a convo last night.....friend wants a 512 stick for under $100.

me: BTW a 512 stick will run you almost $200 (after checking crucial and mushkin)
him: no way, 120 at comp city
me: no fvcking way

am i really out of date, or is he?

33 mghz faster. But the reason most use 133 on a 100 bus is it allows for more reliable O/Cing your BX system. Price wise,go 133 if you can. Should be a wash. At least the ram is good for upgrades to 133 FSB boards.

IT's not an issue of which is faster, it's an issue ofg what bus speed your machine runs at. If you have a 133mhz bus, you need 133mhz ram. If you use 100mhz ram, it won't work (well, it might, but that's another issue). Similarly, if you have a 100mhz bus, you need 100mhz ram. You can use 133mhz ram, but it will just run at 100mhz.

Basically, choose ram that's at least as fast as your bus speed. If you choose ram that's too slow, you might have stability problems, or your machine might not boot at all. If you choose ram that's too fast, the extra performance jsut isn't used. It's like buying a racecar to drive around town, you can only go so fast on a 100mhz bus.

You're WAY out of date... Wait, is this laptop ram or desktop ram?

Oh, I see... Pricewatch lists a 512 sodimm as at least 170.

You have to have your memory clocked at 133mhz to see the gain. You can't just stick PC133 in there and expect a performance gain if you don't clock it to 133mhz, be sure your board supports that. Also, you will see a bigger performance gain by running CAS 2 memory over CAS 3 than you will by increasing the mhz value.
