I'm having problems with my modem holding the phone line open.It will not let me dial up. Even with the system powered down I have to unplug the phone line from the modem to get a dial tone on other phones in the house. It has a HSP56 micromodem DAA plug in module. The jumpers are set correctly acording to the manual. The driver is installed. Any ideas?

Sounds more like a wiring issue than a modem issue - or you have a modem module there that isn't suitable for your country.

If you have a two-plug style modem module, then you need to daisy-chain the line and phone through the modem (US style). In Europe, the wall outlets do the daisy-chaining - here, modems have only one plug for in/out/through. Using the "wrong" one requires weird cabling, but isn't impossible.

I contacted eurocom tech support. They are, from a little reasearch I've done, I believe the manufactures of this motherboard. I asked them if they make modules that are wired differently that could this problem. If so, they could possibly fix me up with the right one. I am waiting for thier reply. Thier support is mainly for distributers not end-users. Anything I could check in the module itself? Thanks for your response!

Other than that you should have a module with a LINE and a PHONE connector when you're in the US and one that just has a LINE connector when you're in Europe, no. (And during driver install, you'll have to select the right country as well.) There's nothing user adjustable on the module.

I really think someone has to untie the knot in your house's phone wiring. You wouldn't be the first.

btw, that board is manufactured by PC-Chips/ECS group, and sold by many resellers big and small.
