SORRY PBS, NOT HBO

Just saw this Sunday. http://www.pbs.org/pov/thewarshow/
A look at the Syrian revolution from the POV of a young film maker who was part of the initial uprising in Syria during the "Arab spring" to present day. IMO, this documentary should be shown to all high school Juniors and Seniors (with parental permission). The young people in the documentary were ordinary young adults who could have been any young person in the USA...except they happened to live in Syria.

If anyone has not seen this film, I suggest you do so. (Link above). As a teacher, I think our youth would benefit from watching peers struggle and die in Assad's Syria as a contrast to the life they now sometimes take for granted in the USA.

Of course everyone should see this to better understand the present day conflict in Syria.

Sorry Gads a brain fart. No it's PBS. Sorry for that.

Changed the title to reflect that it's on PBS.

Pretty sure there's a contingent here that would absolutely refuse to see it, since that would risk developing empathy for Muslims and recognizing them as human beings. Can't have that happen, now can we?

Empathy for Muslims has nothing to do with it. The group were secularists whose friend was killed by Al Qaeda after that group attempted to hi-jack the movement. People are not anti Muslim, just anti Islamic terrorists. Heck, there are more hate crimes/hate speech against Jews than Muslims in this country.
But I digress. The film is worth seeing on many levels...I suggest you watch it.

Oh, there are definitely people who are anti-Muslim. The ones who believe that Islam is inherently violent and that moderates are just ticking time bombs that haven't been radicalized yet (we have a few people on this forum who sincerely believe this). The ones who are eerily quiet when white guys murder Muslims in hate crimes, but won't stop foaming at the mouth the moment there's even one death from a Muslim extremist attack. The ones who scream "free speeeeeeech" when their favorite bigot insists on presenting at a university, but see hijabs as existential threats that must be banned.

It is important that these particular people are secular, but it's still a friendly reminder that banning Syrian refugees would have consequences... including for those that aren't Muslim at all.
