A heads up that Frontline is airing a show tonight about the US's alleged use of torture in Iraq, etc. According to a brief review in my local paper, it's an excellent documentary. Here's a link to the show: Frontline-The Torture Question Here's the slug from PBS's website:

FRONTLINE goes behind closed doors to investigate the struggle over how and when to use what was called "coercive interrogation." The film begins with a policy born out of fear and anger and tracks the increasingly tough measures taken to gather information about Al Qaeda and the growing insurgency in Iraq. This examination begins at the White House and ends in the public debate about alleged abuses at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and Abu Ghraib.

Check your local listings for when it will show. My local PBS outlets have become so gun shy about right-wing political attacks from Washington that they have tended to push Frontline broadcasts several days back, and then at 2 or 3 AM.

It would be interesting to have an actual discussion about what this show presented tomorrow, as opposed to posturing, trolling and flaming that seem to have become so common here.

Yes, it would. But the pnac/neocon/conservative apologists are just going to claim "libura medjia" on the whole affair. Even though PBS is BY FAR the most unbiased news source there is. I will cross my fingers in hopes of a decent discussion here, but i seriously doubt any of the pnac/neocon/conservative apologists will even bother to watch it before denouncing it.

That was an excellent documentary. Frontline never seems to disappoint with its coverage.

The reason neocons want to remove all funding for PBS is because they WON'T LIE OR HIDE THE TRUTH FOR THEM - like Fox and others will

Yes, you can't handle the truth.. once again - you try to blame and belittle the messenger so your beloved won't look so bad

I would rather be called a liberal than torture innocent civilians.

Yeah, you would do anything to make your man shine even hide the truth ... Well... You can't handle the truth!

Frontline is very unbiased. When rumy and bushy meet thier makers I prey they go to hell for what they have done.

I recorded this back when it was on and finally watched 80% of it last night. It worse than I thought. The amount of effort that the WH lawyers and Rumsfeld put in to bypass current US, military and international law is amazing. What did they get from all of it? Nothing, they just tarnished our image even worse. These are sad days to be an American, we have become those we are fighting.

I am proud of the FBI, JAG and a few other agencies that called them on the illegal interrogations. They pushed back and made a paper trail. Good to see not everyone is crazy.

O RLY?

I just want it's funding pulled because the constitution doesn't say that everyone has the right to life, liberty, the pursuit of happiness and federally subsidized television.

I say let it stand on it's on. It would probably survive just fine.

I think we should pull funding to airlines and car makers. Oh ya oil and energy companies too...

I think the few millions we put into PBS to keep it commercial free is an investment that far outweighs any cost.
