You do realize we have groups like that here in the U.S , right?
Yup and one day the rumor goes they will come down out of the hills and sack DC.
At some point democracy will crumble under its own freedoms or it will crumble under the need to protect itself.
It sounds like you're saying Democracy is flawed and unable to sustain itself long term, and I'm not sure I agree. Your logic requires those radical groups to pose a real threat to Democracy itself, because then they will either destroy Democracy or we will destroy it trying to fight them.
But here's another way of looking at it, Democracy is better at defense against radical groups than fascism, even if it doesn't look like it on the surface. Sure, the groups EXIST, but given the schlock they are preaching, who's going to support them in a free and open society? I guess I fundamentally believe that Democracy is a much more attractive idea to most people than fascism. Isn't that what we keep preaching in Iraq? And I don't see very many radical groups talking about a just and free democracy, do you?
I guess I'm not too worried, because the groups don't provide an alternative to democracy that will attract very many people. Instead, they want to force everyone to follow their own narrow world view, something that may appeal to their group, but has very little appeal outside of it. To put it another way, freedom of religion appeals to everyone from Christians to atheists, while YOU MUST BE MUSLIM appeals to, well, some radical Muslims.
I guess I'm not worried, because at the end of the day I believe there will always be more people interested in freedom, or at least NOT interested in the radical group of the day, than there will be radicals. Yeah, they can hurt us and terrorize us (if we let them), but when it comes to all out war, I'd bet on us.
Edit: You ever notice that in the world of Islamic radicals there is a whole lot more saying than doing? Yeah, there is a reason for that. Opening your noise hole is easy, backing it up is slightly more difficult.
