Paypal - upgrading/downgrading?

I've been selling a few things on E-bay the past couple weeks, and the past few people paid me from their accounts/bank accounts. I just got my first CC payment, so I got the standard *upgrade so we can take some of your money or else" e-mail. I've heard you can only downgrade back once. My questions:

1) If I upgrade, will they take the 2.9% on what I've already received? I know they'll take their cut even from non-CC transferes after I upgrade.
2) Is it worth downgrading back down afterwords? Can I do it multiple times? Seems unfair that as soon as you receive on CC payment, they can suddenly charge fees on anything when they didn't before.
3) Should I bother trying to ask the buyer to send the money from an account, or will that just royally piss them off?

What do you suggest I do? I'm not going to sell that many more things in the near future, and I guess I could always delete the account and create a new one... Thanks for the help.

get a second account. you'll need another checking account, hopefully your bank will provide it for free.

p.s. don't bump your thread after 27 minutes please ;)

Did you put it in your ad that you wouldn't accept credit card payments? Yes, you can only downgrade one time. I would ask him if he can pay by another means..... can't hurt to ask.

1) They will only take it on payments after you upgrade.
2) Don't bother, chances are you will receive another one.
3) 75% of the people will be angry.

That being said you can get a second accounts (as suggested) if you are worried about the fees. Paypal allows 2 accounts per person.

have him send you the CC payment.

deny it.

the funds will hit his paypal account, then have him send it to you again, this time from his PP acount and not his CC.

Ooh, I like it.
Does this work? Has anyone else tried it?

Won't work.

The funds will be sent back to his CC. Just like if he paid you with a CC, you accepted, and then you refunded him. The refund will go back to the CC.

At least in the 3 years I've used paypal thats how it works.

Darn.

Yeah, I normally wouldn't worry about the fees so much, but these are things I bought for $230 and am selling for $270, so the fees are like half my profit. Is there any way to configure it with E-bay so that CCs will be directed toward the CC account and direct transfers to another?
