I have a quick question
I got an email from paypal saying that my CC is going to expire and I need to update it, it said which CC it was by identify the last 4 digits, but on that CC the expiration date isn't until 12/07....?? Why such an early notice?

It does address my name, not email address (fake ones address your email)

There weren't any links, it looks legit

When it does expire, all I do is goto paypal.com and update and I'm done, right?

I've gotten so many scamming emails claiming to be from PayPal/Ebay that I no longer believe anything from either is legit. As long as your CC's are current, there's no reason at all to ever update that info. If you have any concerns, then physically log in to the site and make your changes that way.

Did paypal address you by your first/last name?

Dear XXXXXXX

...and not by "Dear Paypal User".

If they said your real name, it's a legit email. If they said "dear PP user" it's a fake.

Yeah, they said first and last name, and also at bottom it said "Please do not respond to this email" etc, so I know its legit, I'm just not going to do anything until it actually expires

i got it too...
and my CC expires in 2007 as well..

i think one of thier server clocks is off LOL

it's a scam... they try to get you to click a link in an email which takes you to a site that looks just like paypal (and masks it's domain as well), so that you'll enter all of your CC info.

Whenever I get anything from paypal that looks like it might be true, i manually type in www.paypal.com. If you need to know anything it'll tell you as soon as you login.

DO NOT click any link in any paypal email, EVER.

Not true... Some of them can get your first and last name from when you sign up for other things online.

A good way to be more secure is to use an alias for any newsletters, forums, really anything you do online that you don't NEED to put in your real name (meaning, if you are going to have to pay at some point). That way even the real looking suspect emails will use the fake name.

Is it the Paypal Debit card, or the Paypal Credit card through Providian?

Providian and Washington Mutual merged and they are now called Washington Mutual. I got a new card because of that.
