I've got a paypal account, but I know from browsing these forums that people say you shouldn't link a CC to paypal...

How should an account be set up to give/receive money?

Hi Stefan,

Sending/receiving payments does require having some financial instrument attached to the PayPal account, so you would have to add/confirm a bank account or credit card.

(From the UA)
U.S. Users. You need to have a credit card or confirmed bank account with PayPal before you can send any payments.

The fears probably come from people that are worried about PayPal being hacked (we've never been hacked).

i only send from CC and not my bank account. with a CC, you can dispute if anything happens. if it came straight out of your checking account, then you're fukked. do beware of all the paypal scams that constantly reiterate themselves.

As long as you deal with people who are verified and have confirmed addresses, you should not have ANY problems.

This is a somewhat related question regarding Paypal, but is there any way to have them cut me a cheque for what's in my account? I could have sworn that there used to be an option to do that but I don't see it anymore. I ask because I don't want to connect my bank account to Paypal.

Hi RaynorWolfcastle,

You would need to at least have a credit card on file. May I ask why the hesitancy in having a bank account on file? It won't be accessed without you logging in and requesting it off of the site, and we do provide protection against unauthorized withdrawals.

Note: The same information we ask for on a bank transfer is at the bottom of every check you write. A lot more damage could potentially be done sending a check to someone you don't know than giving it to a company.

U.S. Users. In order to withdraw funds that PayPal is holding in custody for you, you must confirm the email address that you registered by responding to a message that PayPal will send to that address when you have completed registration, and you must register a bank account or credit card with PayPal. New PayPal Users who signed up for a PayPal account after November 14, 2002 are required to complete two out of three authentication steps (confirm bank account, enter Expanded Use Number, confirm Social Security Number) in order to withdraw more than $500 per month. In addition, Users who signed up for a PayPal account on or before November 14, 2002 will be required to complete two of the three authentication steps described above in order to withdraw more than $500 per month for the first 120 days. Some accounts, at PayPal's discretion, may have this limit even after 120 days. Some accounts, at PayPal's discretion, may have lower limits until the authentication steps have been completed. Account limits, if any, can be viewed from the "View Limits" link on the Account Overview page. For fraud purposes, PayPal reserves the right to review large withdrawals before releasing the funds to you.

You may withdraw funds by direct deposit into your bank account or by physical check. To cover the cost of processing checks, PayPal charges $1.50 per check withdrawal. If a check is not cashed after 180 days from the date it was issued, the funds (minus the fee) will be returned to your PayPal account. Check withdrawals will not be sent to P.O. Box addresses. In addition, check withdrawals will only be sent to a Confirmed Address, unless you are Verified (as described in Section III.1 above), in which case you may choose any street address. If you would like a check withdrawal to an address that does not match these rules, you must contact Customer Service and produce appropriate documentation as determined by PayPal before a check will be sent to the requested address.

my reply will seem meaningless compared to damon's.

I have never had any problems with paypal. I have done plenty of Ebay transactions through paypal and it is way better than doing business through money orders. I have done about 20 transactions through paypal, cc or non cc and I have never had a problem. Money orders and E checks are a pain and take forever....paypal is in my account the same day.

Aliencraft, that sounds like a good idea. I think this is what I'll do, now I just have to find a bank with no monthly fee (at the expense of a higher transaction fee).
