I noticed that if you have a premier or business account you can use the Paypal Shop service to accept payments on your own business' website. Ive seen a lot of people complaining about Paypal pulling money out of their accounts due to possible fraudulent credit card information. Do you think it would be wise to use Paypal as a method of accepting credit card payments or would you stay away from them? (From a business perspective)

I really don't think it is a good idea. All it takes is one fradulent payment to ruin your day.

Hi,

I have been reinforcing in this, and other forums, that users can protect themselves from fraud and charge backs by following the details of the Seller Protection Program. This will eliminate your liability as long as you follow the steps.

I have also posted some tips on how to avoid/detect potentially fraudulent transactions.

Hi,

I don't know where you are getting that information. Our user base continues to grow at 15-20,000 daily and our member count is well above six million and we are processing well over 100,000 transactions daily.

The users are expressing concerns over receiving fraudulent payments and I am addressing how one can cover themselves from liability.

Thanks for your input and contribution to the forums, and Paypal as a whole. It is appreciated.

Hi derek,

Sorry, but I did not go to Stanford:)

We actually just raised another $90 million in financing and we will be rolling out some other cool features very shortly.

Hi Russ,

I have offered ways for users to protect themselves from the very unlikely event of a fraudulent credit card purchase or a consumer charge back. Users can sufficiently protect themselves, and remove their liability, if they follow a few simple rules. This is relatively unique in the payment services industry and something you will not find, even with most traditional merchant accounts.

You have been fairly critical of certain aspects and I am wondering where your specific concerns were so that I can address them. I've already covered charge backs and bank account access---if you have any other concerns I would like to make sure that you are getting the right information or that any unjustified fears are settled.

Hi paypaldamon. Correct me if I am wrong but isn't paypal based in palo alto. So I just assumed it was started by a bunch of stanford people. Sorry about my assumptions;)

Paypaldamon,

It's simple. Paypal is a ".com" that requires access to a members checking account and REFUSES to divulge any financials. Paypal is going to fail, and when they do it's going to be a HUGE mess.

I have no use or need for Paypal and, even if I did, I would not use a service that is a pig in a poke.

Hi Russ,

I find it interesting that you figure the service is going to fail given the recent $90 million in financing and our continued user growth (even with the potential issues facing the economy).

A user providing us with their banking account number is far safer than if I gave you a check with nearly all of my personal information. Accounts are insured against unauthorized access and none of your personal financial information is ever transmitted to a party you do not know (such as a bank account or credit card number).

We are still a private company and that is why financials are not divulged. If ,and when, the company goes public--- I believe all of this information has to be made available.

Ok that is what I thought. It sounds like paypal is doing allright. I am surprised because I made out on that first promotion. I made everyone I know to sign up so I got referal money. Even floor mates in my dorm. Anymore promotions coming up? I liked the first one. ;)

Hi derek,

I will see what I can do for some other promotions. I do know that users that verify a bank account or make a payment through their bank account are entered into a drawing for 10,000. This is given away monthly.

Why did Paypal NEED another $90 million? Same reason all the other tits up dotcoms kept going back to the venture capital well time after time before they gasped their last breath.

You're not profitable.

Hi Russ,

Much of the financing came from international sources so that we could expand internationally and there will be a substantial investment in customer service operations to cover these services.
