Paypal reducing rates?!?!?!

So I get an email that says:

PayPal Is Adding New Tiers to its Fee Structure

Dear ***** ********,

Beginning August 6, 2004, PayPal will expand its fee structure to better serve sellers of all sizes. With this new performance-based pricing, sellers can pay as little as 1.9% + $0.30 for domestic transactions.

Advantages for sellers include:

Lower fees as their business grows

Automatic calculation of rates each month

A consistently cost-effective way to securely and easily accept payments online

Will there be any immediate effect on sellers?
No, sellers will continue to pay their current rate. When the new pricing tiers go into effect on August 6, 2004, sellers may become eligible for a lower rate. Eligibility and price tier will be determined at the beginning of every month based on the seller's received volume for the previous calendar month. Eligible sellers will need to apply before receiving lower rates. Sellers can view their monthly volume in their Monthly Account Statements located on the My Account page under the History tab.

What should I do now?

No action is required, however PayPal encourages you to learn more by clicking on the links below.

What exactly does this mean?!?!? Are they reducing their rates? Stupid company.....What do they mean we have to apply?

1.9% + $0.30 only applies to accounts that have a total transaction of over $125,000. That applies on probably only 1.9% of all Paypal accounts 😀

They are changing the fee schedule. If you get $1k~$10k per month in paypal payments you pay 2.9% + 30¢. There's a post on the forums about it somewhere.

gawd dammit!!! This is only for 100,000 + accounts. WTF?!?!? BURN IN HELL, PAYPAL. THEY ARE A MONOPOLY SO I HAVE TO USE THEM!!! First ebay charges, and then paypal takes another huge chunk...i am so sick of it............

$100,000

I was told by a frequent ebay seller that almost everyone will be paying MORE, not less. Only the people doing over $100K/month will get a reduction.

For most people, the Paypal rate will go from 2.2% to 2.9% (plus the 30 cents per transaction). New rates take effect August of 2005.
