Paypal Question Regarding Linked Accounts

With all the problems that I hear about with Paypal, I would like to have a specific bank account for Paypal. Now if I delink my account, and link to another account, will they still "remember" my first account? Would it be best to close it? I want to keep it because I still have a bunch of checks and want to keep my account number. Thanks in advance.
 
I believe it would be highly illegal for them to do anything to an account that isn't currently linked to paypal, even if it was at one time.
