Are refunds made to you by a seller supposed to be but on a temporary hold from paypal?? this is the first time I got money refunded bacjk to me and my account shows the money come in and then place on hold by paypal, says it should take 2-3 days, is this commonm practice , has anyone here experience the same when they got a refund?

PayPal can only take money from the seller's PayPal account, not his credit card or bank account. You were lucky he did not spend the money during that time.

Hi papichulo1968,

This would happen if you used instant transfer/echeck to send a payment. The seller refunded the payment, but the actual incoming bank transfer did not clear in yet. The hold will be taken off when it clears, which means the money will appear in your PayPal account.

I hope that isn't too confusing.

Hi jinglingxl,

I am sorry to hear of your issues with the seller. I do have to advise that our complaint process does not guarantee a refund from a seller you are having an issue with. You can, however, try to file for eBay's fraud insurance (information is on the web site).

http://pages.ebay.com/help/confidence/problems-fraud.html

I would also recommend that users review the SECURITY section of the PayPal site on how to buy/sell more safely.

Also be aware that if you used Paypal or a credit card to pay an Ebay seller and you
get stiffed and you file a complaint with Ebay insurance that they will deny your claim
and tell you to make a complaint with your CC company which will go after Paypal since
they are the "faciliator" of the deal and only if your CC company denies your claim will
Ebay open up claim up again for investigation.

I think paypal doesn't like for their customers to file CC disputes against them but
what else can be done if the owner of Paypal, Ebay tells you to do it?

Catch 22 anyone?
