If someone wants to pay me (or I want to pay someone), does my account have to be verified? I don't have a bank account, so i can't really verify it.

I thought you could request a check from them if you want to withdraw any money in your account, and you can pay people using a credit card.

As I recall you can set it up for a credit card to use as payment, but that is not verified. When you link it to a bank account it becomes verified.

I set up a separate account for them to link to and they tested it with two small deposits. Once verified you can request your money via an electronic transfer of check. ETF takes about a week, checks can take up to three weeks.

YMMV

I don't believe you need a bank account to become verified. As I remember, the verification process was simply a matter of returning their snail (or possibly email) to prove you really exist.

I know you can receive funds in your paypal account without being verified, but I'm not sure you can withdraw them. I paypaled someone recently who was unverified.

to be verified, you have to enter the electronic code on your check. I have a paypal account + a checking account, but its too much of a fuss for me to get verified. I only use my Visa check card for my checking account. I believe you can call up your back and they'll give you the #.

It's really in your best interest to use PayPal with a bank account, you can deposit/withdraw funds from them much faster using it. How else are you gonna get money in there, send them a money order? If you are under 18, alot of banks have student accounts which are free if you keep a minimum deposit, maybe a few hundred bucks.

verified just gives you more options and freedom. you're charged a fee to accept money, but you dont really have a limit on sending out money. without being verified, you can only send out like $500 from your cc (money that others sent you doesn't count in this 500) every 6 months. verified also makes the person sending you money feel better too, since paypal have fraud protection if the person you're sending money to is verified.

unverified = credit card on file, but no bank acct. on file. Money can be charged (or credited) against card, so money can be removed from paypal to card; not just having them write you a check.
verified = credit card + bank acct. on file. Move money either way. "Verified" eliminates the hold on funds from credit cards and the risk to them of fraudulent cards. This is why some legit accts. get "frozen"; because someone payed you with funds that left a "money trail" back to a fraudulent card.
