Paypal just pooped on sellers again

Always favoring the buyer, inability to leave negative feedback for buyers, double-penetration on fees, and now this BULLSH*T?

I don't see what's wrong with this. This holds true if your buying items from China/HK which can take up to a month to get it.....

So 30 days to get an item. It takes an additional 150 days to figure out you didn't get it or that it's significantly not as described? 45 days is plenty although perhaps it could be appropriate to raise the limit to 60 days on international shipments only. Anything beyond that is just ridiculous.

Even in this case, you don't see a difference between one month int'l delivery and an additional 5 months beyond that to fvck something up and/or make a false claim to get one's money back?

exactly.

what is to say at 5 months they decide they can find it better/cheaper and file a claim?

wtf.

I only use PayPal for buying things. If I sell, it's normally on Craigslist, for cash.

Worse part is it does not even always protect the buyer, the scamers know the system and know how to play it to their advantage. One of my coworkers ordered a processor from ebay for like 400 bucks. Never got it. He figured it was just taking longer to arrive and then after a month the shipper was not talking to him anymore. At that point it was impossible to write feedback or do anything. He was out 400 bucks with nothing he could do. The seller basically just delayed it long enough that all the things the buyer could do just expire.

Do you HAVE to use Paypal to sell on ebay? There's a couple things I've been thinking of selling, though I'd probably end up doing it through forums. The shipping costs makes it not really worthwhile though.

Such a ridiculous policy. I've used eBay for 15 years and PayPal since its inception but I will cancel both after this.

This.

I never understood why CL is seen as "lower class" compared to Ebay on these forums. For selling, Ebay has become a freaking lottery joke as to whether you get a real person, or the next scam inspiration.

I have made CL transactions in public places, at other's houses, or my own house. I am not a hyper-paranoid basement dweller and haven't been murdered yet. Based on my loose statistics, you will likely be scammed on eBay before taken against your will from a bungled CL transaction...

Wow, I wish they implemented this sooner. I bought a 5s off someone a few weeks ago and it's arrived in brand new condition, but I scratched the screen a few days ago.

I want to return it ASAP to get a full refund, but it's past 80 days or so now. 😡

I'm about done with Paypal as well. I had a dispute just filed against me last week with the buyer stating the part I sold him was a different model than I had advertised. In my defense I offered the original receipt, a photo that I sent him with the part number clearly visible, and then a photo of his that he had sent with the part installed, also with the same part number visible.

Paypal decided that I was, indeed, wrong and that I had sent the wrong part to him. So now he has my money AND the part.

Scammers should have a field day with charge backs on the 179th day. It was bad enough when Paypal was 45 days. Not sure how much push back ebay will have from this change but it makes it quite a bit less desirable to do business on ebay at 180 days.

Even Bestbuy and various box stores only have a 30 day return policy.

I've sold alot through ebay and paypal. As long as you understand and accept the fees I don't see the problem.

I rarely sell things through Paypal solely. If it's through Ebay than I almost always use a 14 day return policy or none at all, as-is.

Ebay/Paypal also never sides with scammers if it's at all obvious. Simply dot all your i's and cross all your t's and 99.99% of your transactions will be fine. Relax.

"5 months ago I bought a gift card. It worked for a while. Now it no longer works and I want my money back" "Seller is a scammer" - 180 Days, Good Grief!

its because of shitty sellers.

I've bought items and had sellers BS just to get past the returns window. As someone who does a good amount of ebay business, I am fine with the new Paypal policy. It won't affect me in the least.

Yep. I sold an iPad Air 128gb to some guy in Russia. I knew it was a scam going in but I wanted to see what would happen if I followed the rules.

I shipped to his confirmed paypal address, not the ebay shipping address. Waited 10 days for funds to clear, then shipped. 2 weeks later I got notice he was disputing the charges. Paypal and Ebay sided with me.

Do you have any idea who ended up with the iPad?

lol this is ridicolous. Now private sellers will have to keep records for a long time and stuff to be ready to dispute...

I always sell locally for cash, much easier and safer.
