should i go ahead and sign up to counterbalance the stupid charge they make during every transcation?

Well let me say this: I have been ordering over the internet using a credit card for probably 5-6 years now. And I have NEVER had a problem.

Two months after signing up for PayPal with my VISA (and even though Ive never actually used the service) I had two instances of internet credit card fraud. And then I hear about PayPal having security issues with customer info (including cc#s). Coincidence? Perhaps. But PayPal will never get my cc# again.

Thats my rant.. thanx for listening :)

Ouch. Good thing paypal is tied to my debit card (i.e. checking account) and I never have more than $5 in it.

Blah, let them steal my money ;)

I have been using PayPal for almost two years now doing online transactions and ebay related stuff. I have never had a problem, and I think they are great.

Well they have been going for two years or so, at least from what I know, and don't seem to be having any problems. I don't know how they make money but I guess they do. The only thing they charge you for is incoming credit card payments to pay the transaction fee, they didn't use to do this but they do now, and its only around 1 percent or so. They might make money off special large account types, im not sure.

PSHAW if you have a premier account, paypal takes like 3% on all transactions. Even american express does NOT charge that high of a fee, so they make money of all credit card transactions.

And for premier members, when they get paid paypal to paypal, they make 100% profit off the 3%.

Hi FrancesBeansRevenge,

Can you please expand on your comments? Did someone steal your credit card information and use it on PayPal?

The fees are very reasonable. What do you expect, something for nothing? My only advice is to be very careful about accepting payments from international countries. Fraud controls don't work well and you will have zero legal recourse should something awful happen.

Of course they are not profitable. That's why they had to line up another $90 million in financing recently.

I predict that they will eventually be the biggest dot-bomb of all (unless Amazon goes TU).

I wouldn't recommend anyone other than paypal. I don't see what people could use them for other than ebay/auction sales, considering any online store takes credit cards, unless your young and can only send money to paypal. But for whatever reason you have to use them, they are great.
