Paypal concept is fine, in application their customer service is like thumb wrestling satan, even if you win, they still burn you and condemn your account to eternal hell.

as a consumer, i dont see the benefit of using paypal in retail stores over my cashback/point earning AMEX and VISA. Fuck, I dont see the benefit of using paypal anywhere. That company has such bad customer service

Paypal is only "ok" for buyer, but with chargeback bullshit its always a gamble to use it for selling and if anything goes wrong you get double fucked.

If this works out for Paypal, it should lead to Amex, Visa & MC lowering their rates. Which would result in stores lowering their prices. I shop at cash only places because I like to save money. Anything that gets CC fee's down is a good thing for the consumers who use CC's.

As a consumer: I'm scared of getting burned by paypal online, I'm certainly not going to expand the places I use it to offline. Especially since I don't get what the benefit to me as a customer is? With my CC's I get solid customer service and rewards, and with paypal I mostly worry.

As someone who works in POS/CC Processing: It'd be interesting to see if this takes off. They're targeting merchants who are larger than my company deals with so I guess it's not a big concern for now. Dude is right though, it's hard to convince merchants to use stuff, it's hard to imagine this taking off like the gift card system he developed. That had a convenience factor for customers and customer demand probably helped drive adoption. I'd imagine this is more likely to be like the "smart card"/fastpay system where lots of people didn't want to invest in hardware/training to use.

How do they expect to compete with VISA, Mastercard, and American Express?
This doesn't make an ounce of sense.

My PayPal account is only linked to my VISA and American Express credit card.
Not a single bank account ever linked.

If I decide to use my PayPal at Wal-Mart, PayPal will charge the retailer a fee and American Express will also still charge the same exact merchant fees. It doesn't matter if PayPal or Wal-Mart chooses to pay this fee in whatever ratio they like, American Express will still get it's same cut.

LOL. Paypal is only an online necessity due to convenience and saving time.

I'd trust a debit card from the shadiest bank in the hands of a nigerian prince before paypal.
