I've had my Credit/Debit Card refused many times over the past 6 months. I spent 2 months and 30 hours recently trying to resolve this problem with payments to SKYPE. I would try to make a payment and the message would always come back "Your payment FAILED." I have a Paypal Account that I rarely use for EBAY.

I'd simply try to make my payment through VISA and always I would get the message "Your payment FAILED." I don't run things through PAYPAL because I want as little to do with them as possible. BTW: I phoned my bank to see if they did not allow the charge. They told me that there was no billing and they did not deny payment. I contacted PAYPAL and closed my account. Now my VISA works great, no more payments denied.

The change was effective almost imediately. It seems as though vendors having PAYPAL force you to run your payments through PAYPAL or reject your payment with no explanation. SKYPE's technicians did not know what to do. I've never liked PAYPAL.

I was just unaware how much trouble PAYPAL causes when doing business on the Internet.

OP, I think you're assuming these are related and they are not.

I tried to make SKYPE payment twenty times choosing to pay directly with VISA. Every time I got, "Your payment FAILED."

I finally phoned PAYPAL and closed my account. The representative told me that the account is closed and should not be linked to my credit/debit card. 15 minutes later I made the payment directly through VISA to SKYPE and it was successful.

Go figure?

Yeah, I am not sure. I had a problem with buying with Visa and newegg. It was their verification process that kept rejecting my buys. I tried a million different things and calls and what finally did it for me, was re-entering my shipping and billing addresses (to non-abbreviated ones, ie St. vs Street) and it started working after that.

I have had PayPal since it was x.com and I have never had this problem. PayPal may not be the best company out there but I think this time you are blaming them unjustly.

Paypal is a pile of shit, and anyone who still willingly uses it today deserves the fuck-over they're going to eventually get.

So enjoy, users.

I thought everybody here knew this?

Correlation != Causation

Another explanation is the processing network was down when you previously tried, so it kept failing. In the time it took to close the paypal account, the network went back up allowing your charge to go through. This theory is highlighted by the fact your CC company had no record of denying a transaction.

Also, Skype would have no idea if you have a paypal account or not.

No matter what you could not prove any of this either way with your anecdotal account.

Wait, OP, you're claiming that Paypal was preventing your debit card from working as a debit card other places?

Chances are your bank might've had the card restricted and then after you called they changed it. I know they told you they didn't deny payment but that doesn't mean they didn't have your card limited from online purchases.

Please note that I was trying to get this payment to go through to SKYPE for well over 30 days during which time I'd been using the VISA to make credit card purchases elsewhere. Then of course I've spent hours trying to resolve this with SKYPE in chat without any results. I've noticed that websites offerring PAYPAL have the credit cards verified by PAYPAL. I don't like to have my credit card info. evaluated by a third party; however, if PAYPAL handles their credit card verification, they may have wished me to process thru them to keep PAYPAL in the loop. I was working to keep PAYPAL out of the loop. I was using the same credit card that was registered with PAYPAL.

I don't know how PAYPAL makes their money, but one guess might be that they track your buying habits to sell the information to vendors or advertisers.

Highly doubt that such a scenario would have intentionally occurred.
Much more likely: some kind of human keyboard entry error somewhere.
