Here is the complete email that I recevied from paypal. I cannot believe they took the money a day after this thing started, they are "processing my responce" right now which means thanks for the money and F you. However coneveint paypal is, if someone from 5 months ago can come back and take your money BAM like that then that is pure BS. "unauthorized credit card" this is BS also, then were the fvck is the product I sold this guy? I can't even remember what it was.

Here is the email:

Dear Duane Heitmann,

We have recently been informed that your PayPal Account received funds from
an account that has been associated with unauthorized credit card use.

Details of the transaction and this case are as follows:

Buyer's Name: michael ashley
Buyer's Email: alexpjjumper@hotmail.com
Transaction Date: Nov 3, 2004
Transaction Amount: -$50.00 USD
Case #: PP-067-692-159

PayPal indemnifies sellers from chargeback liability resulting from a
buyer's unauthorized use of a stolen credit card and/or false claims of
non-shipment of goods for payments received through PayPal of up to
$5,000.00 USD per year when the following conditions are met:

1. The seller has a U.S., U.K, or Canadian Verified Business or Verified
Premier Account.

2. The seller ships to the buyer's address listed on the Transaction
Details page.

3. The seller can provide reasonable proof of shipping which can be
tracked. This documentation must show that you shipped to the address on
the Transaction Details page. (Most U.S. carrier companies, including the
U.S. Postal Service, offer this service.) For transactions $250.00 USD or
more in value, the seller also needs to provide proof-of-receipt in the
form of a signature from the recipient. Because comparable proof of
shipping is not currently available for electronically-delivered items, we
are currently unable to offer Seller Protection for digital goods and other
electronically-delivered items.

4. The seller accepted a single payment from only one PayPal account for
the purchase. (Multiple payments from different accounts for a single item
are a fraud indicator. Sellers should not accept such payments.)

5. The seller cooperates in resolving disputes by responding within a
specified timeframe. When a complaint occurs, the seller must provide
complete information within 7 days of a request from PayPal. However, if
PayPal is required by the credit card association to respond immediately to
resolve a reversal, sellers must provide the information within 3 days.
PayPal will indicate the response time required in the e-mail message sent
to the seller.

6. The seller ships within 7 days of receiving payment.

A hold has been placed on the transaction in question while we investigate
this case. To assist us in resolving this case, please click on the link
below and provide us with the requested information:

I like the idea behind Paypal (because I don't wanna set up a merchant account so I can accept credit cards on ebay and money orders/cashier's checks are just too damn slow) but I hate the execution

Well, here's my $0.02.

It appears, from a cursory glance at the contents of the e-mail they sent you, that your buyer's credit card has sent them a chargeback on the basis of credit fraud (IE someone stole the card number or paypal account to buy themselves stuff). It also appears that you will get to keep the money, although paypal is holding it pending their checking to see if you meet all the qualifications of their "insurance" plan.

As long as your account is verified, you only shipped to a verified address, you got a tracking number, and you shipped within seven days of payment you should be golden. If you didn't, especially on one of the first two counts, then you screwed yourself.

I'm no paypal fanboy, but this is pretty reasonable stuff. Especially when you consider some of the other stunts they've pulled.

I am verified, I have a verified shipping address, my cc is verified, my bank account is verified, I did ship within 7 days, and I do not have a tracking number since it's a 5 month old deal I don't tend to keep tracking numbers that long. Who does anyways.

IF i get the money back I will be happy, but I'll still be closing my account with them.

Never keep money in your paypal account.
Dispute it with your bank/credit union.

I've had over 2500 PP transactions...they work great for me.

It saves me time and a lot of running around...which equals $$$

I don't keep money in my paypal account, they took this right from my credit card. Should I call my bank and tell them that this is a fraudulent charge? What happens when it turns out that they are just holding it and I do get it back, my bank get's pissed at me :|

Of course they wouldn't get pissed, but still, it would save someone a lot of work.

They pulled it from your bank account??

Contact your bank and tell them that it was an unauthorized electronic debit from your account, and have them freeze it for all electronic transactions. I'm not sure if they can pull it back from Paypal, though.

If you don't have any funds in your account, PP will make your balance negative.

With that negative balance, you will have to add funds or resolve the situation with PP.

I assume that they pulled the funds from Krypto's checking account, because his debit card is linked to PP.

Correct, the day I checked my paypal's account after getting this email it had the negative $50.00 plus a charge fee. Then today it's back at $0.00 but it shows in my checking account that they pulled it from there.

When you signed up with the devil (i.e. PayPal), you authorized them to go into your bank account to recover funds. Of course, many banks will just ignore this, and I doubt it it will stand in court if it comes to this. So my advice is: dispute it with your bank and say that was not an authorized withdrawal. They will refund you the money and take it up with PayPal. It's possible they will later allow the PayPal theft. On the other, PayPal may send you to collections, but I kind of doubt it over $50.

I might end up removing my bank account and using CC only, then -- I'm too lazy to read the pages and pages of user agreements they have..

I will never use paypal again after my sh!teating experience. May they burn in heck!
