They changed their policy on authorization holds from 5 days to release them automatically to 30 days now... This may not be a big deal to anyone else, but I for one know that alot of merchants will authorize a card for a payment and never actually send in the paperwork... For example if you rent a car, but there are many reasons a merchant will request a hold on the funds but never actually claim them because they are not owed them. So basically Paypal changed this the funds are taken out of you're account at the time like normal then they stay pending for another 30 days unless you have the merchant fax in to cancel the authorization... 11 million members and each time they do that THEY make the interest on you're money... I bet that will add up to millions of dollars a year for them, how nice, bastards... BTW I was thinking maybe if anyone else is pissed about this we could all start sending e-mails to the CEO and explain how we think that a change from 5 days to 30 days is a little ridiculuos and perhaps a 10 day period would have been more inline with real world merchant authorization times...

Hi,

These auths are created by the merchant. They can be released by sending then information as described below---

In order to remove the duplicate hold, we need a fax from the merchant
authorizing us to remove the hold. They will need to include the amount of
the charge, your name, and PayPal card number. It will need to be faxed on
their letterhead to 1-402-935-2235. Otherwise, if the transaction does not
complete, the funds will be credited back on the 31st day.

Then you go down 2 blocks, my cousin will be sitting in a Caddi w/ no Hubbcaps
tell him "Big Red" sent you and that your a close friend of mine. Then you have
to answer 20 multiple questions w/ a #2 pencil, you can't use a pen so make sure
you have a #2 pencil. Then you need to go into the gas station on 5th Ave. and
buy 2 bags of ice, it has to be the big bag of ice, not the small one. Then take
the ice to the house w/ the green awning down the dirt road w/ the 5 mail boxes
on the left side of the street. And then come Back to me. Thats all you have to do..

Easy ain't it..

Hi,

I would hope that experienced users of the internet would realize:

a) not all information on the internet is correct
b) the forum is not open, which means they can select what they post
c) the parties are entirely anonymous-no way of contacting the user to resolve the issue
d) issues that are there are explained fairly well where I have contact
e) you do not have the account records of the parties making the comments---some of them have been involved in fraudulent activity (pyramid schemes, scams, etc).

Many users do not post of the lack of problems that they have with any service.

I've transfered about $5,000 a month through my Paypal for the past two years. Never had a problem.

See, I link my Paypal account to a Savings Account and I keep NOTHING in the Savings. I always withdraw it whenever the transfer goes through. I don't have a Credit Card linked to the account, either. So, if Paypal ever charges me back, most likely they'll get nothing. You have to be smarter than the average Bear.

I lost $30 last year to pay pal...got an email from someone advertising videogames (pc games.com or something)

emailed Pay pal about getting taken for a ride and they said I could file, so I filed and nothing came of it ever!!!

however I still use paypal to accept money, and to send via a cc if needed (paid $2600 for a watch that way) risky business but you only live once...

one thing is for sure, billpoint blows!!!!

This might be why my money hasn't been put back in my account. On the 24th, I went to bestbuy.com to purchase a dreamcast since my local store was sold out. The next closest store which is in the town I work in showed they had some in stock. I ordered online and opted to pick it up. Next day I see that it is now backordered and will be in store in about 7 days. I wanted it ASAP, so I cancelled my order and picked one up at toysrus. I was told on the phone on 2 different occasions by 2 different paypal reps that after best buy releases their hold on the cancelled order (which was released by best buy on November 30th), that paypal will return the money to my account in 4-5 business days. I was never told there was a 30 day waiting period or anything until I read about this here. I gave paypal the benefit of the doubt, and it has now been 6 business days since the hold was released. Guess its time to call paypal one last time and demand my money back. I was NEVER EVER told of the 30 day waiting period, but was informed of the 4-5 day waiting period after the company released hold of the funds. I don't feel it should be my responsibility to have the company fax a letter on letterhead to paypal just so I can get my money back. Paypal is using my money to gain interest while I should have it back. Credit card companies dont hold onto the money for 30 days to gain interest after a charge is cancelled and since I used my paypal funds as a virtual credit card, I should get the money back asap.

I am starting to get a bit disappointed in the lack of care going on here.

Did I mention that PayPal sucks?

PayPal really sucks. It's your money, so you take the risk. I lost $608.50 because PayPal does not have buyer protection from fraud. They claim they do, but they really don't.

I was scammed for $608.50 from a seller who sold me non-working pirated software. This is a felony according to U.S. laws. I informed authorities who verified that the software is fake. I asked paypal to conduct an investigation. They refuse to do so because they believe that this incident is a "quality of merchandise" issue. Really? Tell that to an adult! They treated me as a kid by running me around.

Tell this to an adult, and an adult will tell you:

So, when you grow up, IF you are caught selling illegal replicas of pirated software on the internet, and the FBI catches you, just tell them "but officer, paypal told me that this is only a 'quality of merchandise issue.'"

Basically, if you want real fraud protection, don't use paypal. They will run you around telling you to contact the felon, who will be long gone and will not respond to any of your e-mails.

to think about it, actually, for some reason, paypal took back $8.xx. Well, apparently, I double payed this person (I was impatient and hit the "send" button twice (2x)). Well, I get an email stating they credited back $8.xx. Well, I was going to cash it out (cuz I never receive funds via paypal, always send them).

So, after that email, I checked my funds, and there it was, credited to my account. In about 24 hours later, boom, somehow, my $8.xx disappeared. I'm like, it is just GONE.

There was no -$8.xx in my transaction page. Nothing. Just double payment of $8.xx to the merchant. Weird....

shut up newbie. You didnt take proper precaution, I bet, and on top of that, Im sure you didnt read their fraud protection rules very carefully.

While Im quick to admit paypal has its problems, said problems can usually be worked out fairly quickly if you know who to talk to. If you follow rules _to the letter_ your chances of having problems are even less. And I must say they are getting better with time.

I often keep up to 10K in paypal, and several friends of mine have balances upwards of 50-75K. While there is a small risk they will fold, Im fairly confident they will be here for a while.

I do alot of transactions on ebay where people send me paypal payments...alot of the times by credit card.. after reading that website, i think i will cancel my account in the near future and just accept money orders and checks...ill perhaps look into citibanks service since that is actually coming from a reputable bank. I don't take everything thats said on the internet for gold...but there has to be some truth in some of those stories and the plenty of other stories ive heard on other forums and people. there fees are a little rediculous for me anyway, i can wait for money order or check from my bidders. i mean after ebay eats up a percentage, i have paypal suckin up another 2.9 percent or whatever it is now.

there are some consumers who just love to bend over and invite businesses like paypal to screw them. that's right, you keep all your money and cash in there. you keep using paypal. one day, when it hits you, you will think twice about the definition of "whining". just keep bending over. your turn is coming one way or another.
