Payless shoe store: is there a reason to go to any other store?

I bought a nice pair of dress shoes for $20 today... a couple years ago i got a nice pair of wing tip dress shoes for $20 also and i couldn't tell the difference between my wingtips and the wingtips my dad paid like $100 or $200 for.

Do these shoes fall apart faster or something? Because i sure as hell don't see the difference for leather shoes anyway.

I agree with you on the longevity and comfort (in my experience), but fit? I've heard the same thing said about more expensive clothes, and it just doesn't make any sense.

also your dad's shoes were probably better material/better material in more places.

that being said, you can get some really nice shoes for 100-150 off msrp at payless. They have johnston and murphy's...which many presidents wore.

Fit and comfort go hand in hand. If it's not comfortable then it's not a good fit, IMHO.

Those shoes always fall apart. When I was a kid my mother would bring me there to get shoes for school. Three months into school they would already have holes and degrading bottoms.

I dont care what anyone says, but I have a pair from there (casual shoes for work) and they are comfortable and the quality is pretty good. Now, I wouldnt buy sneakers from there but my $40 shoes are just fine.

It's one of the few places I can count on finding my size 16 Reeboks or Nikes in stock.

edit: NEVER MIND. I must be too distracted, trying to post in this thread while watching basketball. Shoe Carnival has my size 16; I don't know that I've ever been in a Payless.

It is true that if the fit is not good, the shoe will not be comfortable.
It is not true that if the shoe is not comfortable, it is due to fit.

They're cheap. I'm not just talking about price. They feel differently, and they fall apart faster.

You get what you pay for; remember that.

Correct.

But... what if the material used is crap? Even if the shoe proper fits very well a poor sole can be hot garbage to walk on over extended periods of time if it's not good quality. In such a case the fit can be quite good but actual product usage is uncomfortable.

I still check Payless when I need new shoes, but I haven't actually bought from them in quite a few years.

I'd take a $150 pair of doc martens that'll last for 2 years over a $20 pair of shoes that will last for a month.

Its not that they fall apart but they are so uncomfortable if you have to wear them all day.

Yes... only some of Payless' shoes are ok. The quality of many match their price perfectly. You could get by, but don't expect much. I'm still annoyed a pair I got there bled dye onto my pants in light rain.
