Paying rent with a CREDIT CARD and earning reward$

been doing it for some time 🙂 I pay almost everything with my CC, mileage is goooooood and I always pay my bill so no accrual 🙂

I pay everything I can with my credit card. Paying with cash/check is pointless now a days, and is only for people who don't know how to manage credit.

I already pay everything with my cc but never imagined paying rent with it.

How would you pay rent with it? Those checks that the credit card companies send?

Nope, those "convenience checks" are used for balance transfers which you don't want to do because you earn no perks.

This would be using CitiBank's Bill Manager service.

How is this card better than Chase perfectcard?

3% on gas purchase, 1% on all others....I don't see much of a difference.

It isn't, they're both great cards. Just personal preference.

I use credit on everything I can. Checks suck cause they cost me like 50 cents every time i write one.

it has a monthly charge on that! not worth it for me to pay my cheap ass rent $210. but I am going to pay my gas bill with it $300 😀

I am gonna pay my gas bill now

I hope chase will honor their promotion. I should be getting 6% on gas and 3% on all others for the first 3 months. When I received my card, nowhere in the package mentions about the promotion. 😕

I really love that 3% rate...sad that it will go back to obselete (1%) after the 3 months. 🙁

i've heard some apartments will charge cards as a cash advance.....

on a similar note, the apartments that are semi run by my school are dropping credit payments... it was either that or see a bigger raise in rent 🙁

mine says that they'll charge 10%, not sure if its illegal, but i think its dumb! When i put a deposit down with my roommates, $500, they charged us 50 bucks more because all we had was a credit card!

Yeah, mine does that too... does anyone know about the legality of this??

I think BillPay electronically sends them funds or a check right? It isn't being processed through the network is it? So would the 3% fee apply?

I think so

It is not illegal. It's a violation of their agreement with Visa/MC. The government doesn't care, nor should it.

Wrong! It is illegal in some states, actually a lot of states. So whatever state you are in check the laws relating to credit cards. I know here in California there is a law against surcharges on credit card purchases.

AFAIK there is no 3% charge because CitiBank mails a CHECK to my landlord.

Yes an actual physical paper check, I just have to pay CitiBank the $4.95/mo monthly fee but we shall find out if it works or not.

Ross if you read the FAQs it seems to indicate that it requires a link to your checking acct (doesn't matter if it's a Citi checking acct or not), and that all payments processed by Bill Manager are deducted from that acct and not from your citi card.

If you know any differently please let me (us) know! I too have been looking all over for a service that allows such a loophole and the only one I've found is Amex (but payee choices are very limited).

I read the site very closely and I see it the same way that luv2chill does - the bill payment doesn't work with a credit card, only with a Citibank checking or savings account. Too bad, I'd be all over that!
