I believe USPS is one of the only "merchants" with the legal ability under their merchant's agreement to charge you more when you pay by credit card (than you would have been charged had you paid in cash).

I believe for Money orders over $XX, they will charge you a surcharge for using your CC. It should not show up as a cash advance.

this is true at the grocery stores..damn no 5% cash back hehe. I would assume a cash advance would work because cash advance=getting money out at ATM

I highly doubt that USPS charges fees for CCs or they will get reamed in the ass... the website does say Cash or Debit... possibly Travelers Checks

I say that Cash Advancement is possible because it would seem that USPS would get the money debited directly. Cash advancements are usually made at the ATM and they come with hefty fees.

I don't think they'll go for it.

If they can charge your cc and turn it into cash then it's definitely a cash advance.

AFAIK USPS only accepts cash and debit cards to purchase USPS MO's.

Show me someone who needs a cash advance, and I'll show you someone who is financially irresponsible.

anywhere that takes Credit Card is not considered cash advancement. the only time this qualifies is if you use the card in an ATM to get cash.

and because of this, Post offices do not allow you to use credit card to purchase them MOs.

same reason how you cannot pay off your car payment or mortgage every month with your credit card. although I do find it weird that when I bought my car, they did allow me to use my credit card as down payment. I guess they don't want me collecting points on something that is considered interest? (since down payment is all going towards the principal amount)
