Paying Homage to the Cross Flow Fan God!

Well I had a previus post saying how I couldn't get my temps down. I idled at 40c, case was around 38c, and at load my cpu got around 50c all stock. Got cool and quiet working which dropped idle around 29c and case around 30c. Load still spiked up to near 50c.

Well today I got the cross flow fan and slapped that puppy into my stacker. At first I let it idle with CnQ....27c. 2c less? I was less than thrilled. Then I turned off CnQ and it only went up to 33c. Now that is 7c less than before. And at full load with dual prime running.....I haven't seen it go above 38c, a whole 12c drop! Oh, and my case is around 25c now too.

Granted, I have seen people with lower temps with an OC'd chip, but seeing what my temps were before and after this fan I am very happy! Now that my temps are at a respectable temp, I can finally feel comfortable OC'ing it.

Just wondering: is the cross flow fan your only intake fan? (I read somewhere that if you already have a 120mm intake and a 120mm outtake it doesn't give much additional cooling. And how is the noiselevel of the thing?

Well I have a 120 intake and exhaust and a smaller fan as a top exhaust. The addition of this cross flow fan made a huge difference for me. Something to note though....my only intake fan was built into my hdd cage. So the fresh air was going over a raptor and another fast hdd. I am sure that raised the temps a bit. Now I don't have a lot of extra cash to blow (spent it all on the computer), so I can't test the difference between the cross flow and just upgrading the 120 case fans to something faster.

As for noise....well at full speed it isn't horrible, but noticable. I think CM quotes it somewhere in the mid 40's db. At mid speed there is very little difference in temps and it is a decent bit quieter.

The fans on the Stacker 4 in 3 cages are VERY wimpy - barely able to cool the drives. If you want that fan to contribute to overall system cooling, you definitely have to bump up to something stronger. I've got one of the Sanyos I've been selling on mine - works great.

Zepper,
I agree about the cage fan....I am less than thrilled with the power of that thing. However, since my temps are much better now I am in no rush to swap out those fans until I start to OC my chip.

AntiStatic.....since I have the same case, fan, motherboard and a similar cpu I was wondering what your temps are. I am still sitting a little over 30c at idle with CnQ turned off.
