Paying for faster access to Anandtech

I used to belong to anandtech along time ago. I left the forums because they started charging people for faster access. What happened?

Why did you leave in the first place? It's not like they tied us down and forced us to use the subscription service.

The forums were soooo slow without paying for the faster access. It seemed unfair at the time. I couldn't pay for the subscription because I was struggling with money then.

I made the choice to leave and go elsewhere.

very true, the forums were slow as dirt back then.

This was fixed in late 2002/early 2003. The non-subscriber servers have been fast for me ever since then.

My only annoyance were the frequent JRun errors, which seem to have stopped (for now).

There were a few dozen of us who eagerly wanted to give Anand $30/yr to keep the subscriber service in business but in the end it just wasn't worth it for them to keep it.

How could they not be making a profit when we are being charged something that everyone else gets for free now?

It was a dedicated server they weren't getting ad revenue from.
