paying for cell IM spam?

If I get spam via text messages to my cell phone, should I have to pay for the IM? Last time I called T-mobile a few months ago about it, they said yes. Certainly unfair. Has anyone been able to get them to credit you back?

Who doesn't have some sort of bulk text message rate in this day and age?

So your answer is for the OP to pay more so he can get spam for free, somehow that response seems less than helpful.

The wife and I. Phones are for talking. I hate it when people send me text messages.

I've had a cell phone for 12 years, and don't think I have sent a grand total of 5 text messages in 12 years. Mostly did them by accident figuring out a new phone.... I hate them...

i get this once in a while with my phone too. didn't care too much when it was 2cents a msg, but verizon just raised the rate to 15c. Now that adds up. They raised it just so you would buy their $5/month unlimited plan...

Text messages have their place, though carrying on entire conversations via text is terrible.

I don't. I've had a cell phone since Christmas day. The battery is almost dead. I can't wait.

Wooohooo! Talk about timing! It just stopped blinking and finally shut down! Now, to call Verizon and cancel my land line. Then, no one can ever bother me at home again! If they want to leave a message, they can call my wife or kids.

If $0.15 or whatever breaks his bank this month, he's got other problems.

It is the principle of the thing. Paying for something one does not desire.

You should only have to pay for sent text messages. Then the spam or junk from your sister wouldn't cost you.

It's not $0.15. It's $0.15 + $0.15 + ... + $0.15...

One of my wife's friend's husband decided to start texting me repeatedly a month or two ago with typical email type forwards. Anything from jokes to animated .gifs of busty women jumping up and down to 90+ year old naked women, etc. We requested he stop, but he didn't. I finally went in and blocked his number completely. That month's bill was about $8 higher than normal.

Now...did that $8 put me in bankruptcy court? Of course not, but it is still payments for something I did not request nor wanted.

What?! $5 a month unlimited texting? I renewed in July and the closest they had to unlimited was 5000 for $20. I took that figuring it'd be safer to have ridiculously too much than to have one month where I go over and have to pay $1xx.

It's all data, I'm still trying to figure out why they can charge you at all. Actually making the call would take more bandwidth and be free. Charging for a fad.
