Mine was a 1984 Cutlass Sierra LS, with the 2.5L engine. Sure, it was old, slow, and had 170k+ miles on it, but it was the perfect car for someone just learning to drive and/or work on cars. It was cheap to operate, too. I wish I still had it.

15 years later and it's still mine.

It was the proverbial "Flintstone Stopper" when I got it.

1992 or 1993 Corolla Wagon similar to the one in this pic:

Wasn't beautiful by any means, but it got the job done and I fell in love with wagons from that point on. I think I got it around 1995 with 160K miles on it as the previous owner and driven the crap out of it. He had actually upgraded the wheels and put on wider tires...which gave it a slightly nicer looking stance...but it was still pretty ugly.

I drove the crap out of it for a couple of years until it was totaled with a guy running a red light T-boned me.

1977 Super Red Monte Carlo 305. Got it when I turned 17 my senior year in high School(1989). Crashed it in a drunken stupor 1 year later. R.I.P. I still have the part of the front fender in my attic

My first car was a 1982 Plymouth Reliant station wagon with 120,000 miles... what a piece of crap. The floor boards were so rusted out that I would end up with two inches of water inside the car if I drove through a big puddle.

The transmission on it was screwed up, too, and I get out of the car and rock it in order to get it out of Park. :)

I still have my first car >< My first first car doesn't count. It was rear ended and totaled after a week by some old lady.

paint is never cheap.....prolly the most expensive part of restoing any car .

It's not so much the paint as it is making sure the body is straight so the paint doesn't look like crap. If you can give them a car with a straight body in decent primer with the trim already removed the price of a "paint" job get's quite a bit cheaper.

You had that happen too? The 84 Cutlass I mentioned earlier had the a similar issue, but due to a broken shifter cable. I had to get out, pop the hood, and move the auto lever (not the correct term) for it to select something not in park.

It was a pain, but we eventually fixed it. What was fun, however, was being able to shift into reverse on the freeway to put my backup lights on whenever someone tailgated.

God I loved this car, would have paid quadruple its MSRP to have this undone.

1973 Ford Maverick sedan with the 302 V8. It saved my life when I rolled it taking a hard turn on a dirt road.
