Pay for upgrade to my company car out of pocket?

I get to choose the exterior and interior colors of my 2005 Taurus, and there's a few options I can choose if I wish to pay extra. Pimp wheels that are like $400 seems pointless, as do the $85 heated mirrors. BUT, there's an option for a floor shifter instead of the column shifter (automatic tranny here obviously). The floor shifter would also cut my theoretical max seating capacity to 5 from 6. This option is $93. I have to pay up front with a MO or cashier's check.

Is this worth it? The worst thing that could happen would be that if this car was totaled for some reason, I'd be out of the money. Hmmm....

get the heated mirrors (it should come iwth heated seats in that option).. they are useful int he cold.. to see clearly.

The floorshifter is your option, its upto you.

I know the seats are cloth, are there heated cloth seats? I thought they could just do that with leather seats...

I wouldn't put any money into a company car.

Seriously bad investment, especially since you won't own the final product.

true,

I wasn't really looking at it as an investment. Just trying to see if you guys would pay an average of $31 a year for 3 years to have a floor shifter. The more I think about it, the more it makes sense to pass on this.

However, I don't think I'm going to pass on buying the 2002 that this will be replacing. I think my company will sell me the car for ~$3,000, and kelley blue book says that it should be worth ~$6500 with 100,000 miles on it. :Q

My thoughts exactly. Even if I just sell it to the first person who lowballs me ~$5k for it, that's still a nice easy payday.

I had no idea the car would be worth that much since I had put so many miles on it. But, the fact that it's been perfectly maintained (with all records) seems to have helped me.

yes, I'll have to get blue neon's underneath and a coffee can muffler...

debating on a big white vinyl "POW3R3D BY FORD" sticker for the rear window...

oh dude you forgot the Calvin peeing on the chevy symbol. that at least deserves the Left top side. 😀

The only reason I might fork out the money is if the console that comes with the floor shifter is more comfortable or has more storage than the standard flip down armrest.

To be honest, some kind of storage (locking preferred) in the console is one of the most important deciding factors for me when car shopping. The armrest has to be especially comfy as well.

Here is what you should do. Ask your boss to pay for an ergonomic evaluation, have the guy write that you need the floor shifter cus column shifter gives you carpral tunnel or some bs, and have the boss pay for it. 😀
